5 Stencil Techniques to Try

Stencils are an affordable and creative way to add a unique touch to your furniture. By using stencils, you can easily apply intricate patterns and motifs to your furniture surfaces. Whether you prefer a chic, vintage-inspired look or a modern geometric pattern, the possibilities are endless. With a wide range of stencil designs available from Redesign, you can find the perfect match for your personal style and home decor theme. Plus you can reuse stencils again and again on a variety of surfaces including, but not limited to, wood, metal, glass, ceramic, and fabric.

If you are a beginner, trying stencils can be a little daunting the first time. Check out this post for the basics of using stencils. Looking for more tips and tricks, check out this post!

1. Paint with a Dabbing Brush
Let’s start with the basics! With your favorite paint and a dabbing brush, you are all set to stencil. Use one color for a classic stencil look or blend multiple colors.

2. Outline Method
A paint pen is your best friend for this technique. They come in a large variety of colors and apply a thin, even layer of paint without needing to be dipped in paint.

3. Gold Leaf
Forget paint, everything is better in gold anyways. For this technique lay down a clean stencil and paint glue the way your would paint. Wait for it to get tacky to the touch and then add Gold Foil Sheets or Metallic flakes. Wait to set before gently brushing the excess off, and you are left with a sparkly design.

4. Decor Wax
Decor wax is so easy to blend. For this technique choose colors that pair well together and apply using a stippling brush.

5. Raised Stencil with Crackle Texture Paste
You can create a raised stencil effect using Fiber Paste, Chalke Paste, or 3d Modeling paste. But you can add even more distress to your design by using Crackle Texture paste. This paste will go on smooth and “crackle” as it dries creating a beautifully worn look. Apply using a spread pal or silicone brush for the best effect.
