Here is the before piece, stripped of hardware and primed. This is a great base and in sturdy shape.

Use IOD paper clay by Prima in the moulds to create your castings. The air dry clay can be applied to your piece while they re still wet, which is what you want when working on surfaces that are not flat. Once the clay is dried on the piece, it is supper strong and can take many art mediums you wish to use.

After adding the clay, sculpt the clay so that you don't have any extra hanging off the sides. Scrape away until you are left with just the clay within the mould. You can use a scraper to make sure it's even and to remove extra clay.

Here is what the casting will look like after you remove from the IOD mould. You can use corn starch in the mould before using clay for easy removal, but it is not necessary with IOD paper clay-it comes out clean.

Apply the casting to your hardware using a strong glue such as liquid nails, Prima's gel medium from the Finnabair collection or E6000. See how the casting can be formed to the shape of the hardware since the clay is still wet?

And here is a close up of the handle after it has been fashioned to the drawer and painted. Looks like it has always been there!

From this angle, you can see the borders with the flourishes added to the four corners and a keyhole at the top. The center was also created using the moulds with IOD decor stamps and Home Decor ink for a gorgeous vintage look.

Here, castings are added to the carved design that was original to the piece. They enhance the design and look original too. What a fabulous idea!
