Kitchen Cabinet Makeover with Artisan Powder + Clear Wax

We have been doing more work at the Selma cottage in Temecula! (And we promise to show the entire house done soon) This is the kitchen, where we added stenciling to the walls using Charcoal chalk based paint and our Dainty Fleur stencil. The stenciling looks pretty cool over the concrete style walls... The cabinets were purchased at a large hardware store chain and they were in need of a makeover to go with this uniquely styled kitchen.

Fast forward-all cabinets were installed along with concrete countertops and appliances. We chose a dusty blue chalk style paint to paint over the bland white cabinets. We added two coats all together and let them dry for a few days before putting the doors and drawers back in place.

Then our home decor guru, Denny Dupra Rufner, mixed Frank Garcia's Artisan Powder, Parthenay with clear wax. (the wax is firm-not the liquid kind). This allowed us to create our own custom wax to age and antique our cabinets.

The wax was applied with a large wax brush, then wiped off with a clean rag. You can repeat this step until you achieve the desired color. These cabinets look so different! Now they have a high end look and match the style of the rustic kitchen.

Here is the kitchen island we built using old cabinets from the original kitchen. (It pays to save them). You can see it's not quite finished but the legs and cabinet fronts match the kitchen cabinets perfectly, creating a nice cohesive look. Originally, we were going to paint the legs, but did the wax instead and they look perfect...
