From Drab to Rehab Fab

Hello re·designers! Today we are featuring Stephanie Coon of Rehab To Fab and her MDF dresser makeover. This is one makeover we think you are going to love. She used re·design and Dixie Belle Paint Company to help take a cheap boring dresser and turn it into a statement piece. Let’s see what she did…

Here is what Stephanie started with. Just a plain MDF dresser that lacked personality and Stephanie saw the potential for a great makeover…

**Tip-Prep is key no matter what you are working on! Clean well to remove dirt, grease, or dust. Here it is with a coat of Dixie Belle Slick Stick, as the MDF had a sheen so prime with this first. This will help the paint adhere to the shiny surface.

Want to add some character and charm? Use the Decor Moulds™, modeling material and some wood glue to add designs with ease. The modeling material is very soft, easy to manipulate and works extremely well with the moulds.

This buttery, soft air dry clay works like a dream in the moulds (638290). Add to the mould, remove and glue to your project right away using Titebond Glue. Then paint right over them. There will be a bit of shrinkage as the clay dries, so just touch up with more paint….

This is Stephanie’s glue of choice. Sets quickly so you dont have to wait too long to work on the piece. And it is very strong and durable too.

Once the moulds are dry, it is ready for paint! Stephanie used 2 coats of Cotton by Dixie Belle. This is a crisp and clean white that will brighten up any piece. Talk about a clean slate…

Now, it’s time for Decor Transfers™! Stephanie combined three different sets to accomplish her design. It’s so fun to mix and match designs to create your own designs. They can be cut apart and used in pieces where you want them.

She used Fern Woods (635541), Delicate Fleur (636937) and Parisian Butterflies (635466) and arranged them where she wanted them on the bottom portion of the dresser.

Love the idea of adding them to the bottom. It looks like they are growing up the front and sides of the dresser.

One more detail was added! Stephanie added the Lucky Emerald Art Alchemy Wax to the appliques. It adds just a touch of green to bring the eye up and to enhance the details of it too. Love it!

You can apply the wax with a brush or dab with your finger to add to the areas you like. The wax has a bit of an antiquing base to it, so you get a mix of brown with the green. Very cool effect..
